Geforce Gtx 550ti vs HD 6870 graphics card

I was using a Geforce Gtx 550ti for over a year now and it died last month so I got a replacement for it. What troubles me now is that this card is not performing upto the mark, since I can play some of the games but not all like MW2. Is there any solution for this problem or should I buy a new HD 6870 graphics card or something mid-range to play all games on my computer atleast. Thanks

I am using HD 6870 video card for 3 years now and I havent faced any problems till now. The temperature of this card at idle is not so high and resides till 52C. When I play games then only it reaches upto 65C or more, but what more can you expect from a 3 year old card. The best part about this card is that I can still play all latest games that are getting released till now at medium and sometime at high settings. So, you can definitely go with this mid-range card if you would like.

I think that it might there might not be a problem with the instability of graphics card but also with other components. What is the make and model of the Power supply you are using. I ask this because there could be a problem with the cheap PSU that is not enough to power such graphics card. Also, I would recommend you to test the RAM and see if that passes all the errors.

Re: Geforce Gtx 550ti vs HD 6870 graphics card

Apart from a cheap power supply, the graphics card that you have will also under perform if you have a low end CPU that will bottleneck the performance of the video card on your system. This is the reason why the GPU underperfoms. Most of the AMD CPU require 95W and atleast 450W PSU minimum requirement for the 6870 card is required. So you will need to get atleast 550W PSU from good brands like Corsair, Antec, etc.
