Amd 7950 vs AMD 7870 for gaming

My graphic card is quiet old now. It is AMD 4870. I had purchased a two set of card when I bought the system and from that time I am using them on crossfire. Now I need a more newer card. I had also purchased a new monitor. This is a big size HD monitor with 29" screen size. The output of my existing card on them is quiet poor. The images are bit blurry here. So here if I add a new card then the output here will be more better and clearer. I am having two cards in my mind. Among which the first one is AMD 7950 and the second AMD 7870. Which one is better among them.

There is a difference in specification of both cards. You can find that on the official website of AMD and compare them. And it obvious that the higher series will be more better. If the price of both cards lies on a very narrow margin then you can choose the higher series here which will be more better.

Amd 7950 is a 3G DDR5 graphic card capable of giving great gaming performance. The card is better than 7870. Here 7950 is more better in many terms. It has a good cooler also it is low in noise while playing games. One more card that comes in the same series but is a bit costlier is 7970. Compare to that 7950 is quiet more reasonable and better. It is a high end card. As per different specification between the cards 7950 is low on stream processor, texture units, core clock and memory clock. The difference is clear here. AMD 7950 is more better with 3GB ram and 1.3Ghz of clock rate. It works more better than 7870. There is not really a very big gap between 7950 and 7870. Compare to the higher one 7870 offers you 1792 800Mhz core clock and 1.25Ghz memory clock. While here 7950 is just offering you 1.5Ghz. But the only difference I found quiet better here is the output of 7950 on extreme condition. Games really work better and are cooler on this card. They do not lag or freeze and you can play for hours on the same.

AMD Radeon 6950 also lies in the same range but a bit less powerful. This card is simply much more cheaper here. You can try to find more lower models if you are having a tight budget. There is no use of going for a costly card as it just adds more to the clock rate. That's it, every other things looks similar here.

My friend has a similar card by Sapphire. It is a 7950 card which is a 3GB overclocking edition. The card comes with 900Mhz clock rate and you can simply overclock that to more higher to gain more gaming output. This card is bit efficient compare to others in terms of overclocking. It is a some set of multiple heat pipe cooler supported dual fans. So heat dispensation is more better in it. It remains cooler when you are playing games for hours. While at the normal condition there is no issue at all. I had tested the temperature here which remains at a standard ratio at the time of usage. In terms of performance the card offers great output and goes really well. While if you want more performance then you can go with two cards. It comes with some TriXX support. I searched that on Google and found that it is some kind of new utility which allows you to tune of the card for better output. For any other card I had not see any kind of tuneup utility. It gives ample of information on the gpu temperature, memory clock, etc. So fo advance user this would be really helpful.

In graphic card higher is always better. The more higher series you go for the best specification you will get. It is essential that you must simply choose the one that fits your budget first. Later on you can manage the performance. I think any new entry level gaming card can be more than enough for what you are looking for.

Compare to AMD 7870, 7850 has more memory bandwidth. So surely it will work more better and the output as expected will be good here. It is faster and will give you more textures. But that does not means AMD 7850 is just a low end card. This are high end cards that are capable of giving high resolution on multiple display. Under Nvidia, whichever card comes under the 700 series belong to good performance. Like GTX 780. This is a costly card delivering good output. While Radeon 7970 comes near to the performance of GTX 580, 660 Ti, or 570. Radeon 7850 goes near to the performance of 680M, GTX 470, 560 Ti, etc. I will term 7850 as a mid range card instead of high end. Here Radeon 7970 is truly a high performance card. While if you want to go in Nvidia then you have more options. Like GTX 580, GTX 780, GTX 670, GTX 770, etc. All this are good cards.

The best way to find out the output is to get a benchmarking report of that gpu. You can then compare them with each other. Now there are ample of websites on the web offer you proper benchmarking reports and simple comparison options. If you can find a consolidated benchmarking report then you can simply collect more alternative cards in the same series with similar output.
