2 way SLI EVGA GeForce GTX 690 vs 3 SLI EVGA GeForce GTX 680

Hey guys I am having Rampage IV X79 Motherboard in my Thermaltake Level 10 Case and I have some doubts regarding the heat/airflow, so here I just wanted to know that which option will be better from 2 way SLI 690 and 3 SLI 680, what are the advantage and disadvantage of them, I also wanted to share that I am having sound blaster sound card as well which is using 1 of the pci-e slots probably I will be using the system for surround gaming 120hz, so is there anyone who has an idea about the same and can help me out in choosing the best option in my case??? Any suggestion regarding this will be highly appreciated.

Even I need some help regarding the same my system specification are as followed:
    • I7 3930k C2
    • Corsair H100 Hydro CPU Cooler
    • Asus Rampage IV Formula
    • 16GB Ripjaw DDR3 2133mhz Ram
    • Evga GTX 680 SLI
    • 240gb Vertex 3 SSD
    • 3x 2tb 7200rpm HDD
    • LG Bluray Burner
    • Corsair 1200 Watts Gold PSU
    • Thermaltake Level 10GT Case
    • Asus VG278H 27inch 3D monitor

I have been looking out after an answer for the same but then I have not yet got a proper answer,I have asked the same question in some other forums as well and most of the people have suggested me to get rid of the sound card and then go with 3 SLI 680 but then I really cannot give up the sound card, so any further suggestion than this will be appreciated.

See as per the specification of your system I will like to inform you that the Gpu's are not appearing to be powerful enough and I really don’t think that the latest games will be coming up and use extra HP that you might be having now, you should keep in mind the amount of Vram which might be running out quickly when you start running the surround, I also wanted to share that the GTX580 1.5gig wasn’t enough and because of the same they have come up with 3Gig like AMD and even 4Gig vram 680's are coming out, having more Vram will be a better option, so chose accordingly. Hope that helps.

Thanks for your interest, I was actually looking after 2x gtx 690 but then I am not that satisfied with the same because they are having only 2gb per gpu which make me that that it wont be possible to get hand on 2 of them nearly, I have checked out for the pricing and the $1000 is being charged for $1200 on newegg where as $1100 on amazon which is quite disappointing, so because of all this I am looking forward to go for 3x gtx 680 4gb rather than going for 2x gtx 690 but then I just wanted to added that if it is about comparing 2x gtx 690 vs 4x gtx 680 2gb then I personally will go for 2x gtx 690 as far as x79 boards are concerned, I am saying so because one can easily run them at 16x speed as compared to that of 4x gtx 680 which will be running at 16x/8x/4x/4x.

In that case I will like to add that 4 way scaling is just not a good option for considering 4 way SLI, I mean that it will be just a waste of the whole GPU on the 2nd 690 in SLI, since you have mentioned that you will be using the system for surround gaming 120hz I think that 3 SLI 680 will be a better choice In your case, if you are willing to go with 2 x 690's then there won’t be any issue in adding the 4th GPU later but then it will be saving some bucks, in the coming future it will be even better but then I personally think that one should take the advantage of 4 GPUs in SLI for powering up their multi monitor setup.
