NVidia Fermi cards now supported in Mac OS 10.8 Mountain Lion

Currently I am using the Mac Pro. Recently I have upgraded to Mac OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. After this update I have found that there is no need to add GTX560 ID and I think that it applies to all GTX 5xx series cards. Furthermore you don’t need to fiddle with AGPM kext because that cards are able to throttle automatically and by themselves.

When the first release of Mountain Lion, I have heard that it disables opencl functionality for gtx480/gtx470. First I thought that they made it intentionally because there was a possible way to enable it by just changing two bytes in GL driver. The one byte is for 32-bit part and the other byte is for 64-bit part. But now it is really fantastic to see that finally the Mac OS got a support for newer cards and Nvidia improvements. This new OS Mountain Lion really made huge improvements over Graphics abilities.

I am also using somewhat same computer called hackintosh and some observations I made are as follows:
    • The opencl works ootb on fermi Graphics cards but I think that the apple has removed the sm_20 code and hard setting it to 1.2 or 1.3 which won’t work at all.
    • However the best thing is that apple has finally managed to show the correct clock frequency (but we still cannot see cache sizes)
    • Yet don’t have a support of opengl 3.3/4.x and opengl es 2.0
    • But I assume that they have added kepler support also.

I have heard there is Chimera 1.8 Update released for Mountain Lion and I assume that this update will be directly included in the next OS release. The changelog is as follows:
    • OS X Mountain Lion boot support, based on cparm's patch.
    • Added support for ATI Graphics cards as well as NVIDIA video cards.
    • Default ATI video card setup support.
    • Solved compatibility issue and errors with some older ATI video cards.
