Upgrading to GeForce GTX 580 SLI

I am about to upgrade my GPU for gaming purpose. I was thinking of buying ATI Radeon HD 7970, but later I found that using two GeForce GTX 580 together using SLI technology can also be good. I want to have a resolution of 1920 X 1280 while playing games. I am confused about which GPU I should use, can anybody advice me on good option out of the above mentioned GPUs?

Using two GeForce GTX 580 together can provide you GPU memory of 1.5 GB. This will provide you a good resolution along with a good framerate. The maindrawback of this system will be that GeForce GTX 580 is now an old product and its price very high if compared to ATI Radeon HD 7970. Also GeForce GTX 580 when combined with same of its kind will produce a huge noise and heat. You will need to spend little more extra money on cooling of these GPUs. Also it will need more power as compared to single ATI Radeon HD 7970. So I suggest you that you buy a ATI Radeon HD 7970.

GeForce GTX 580 when came in the market was new to the SLI technology. Not much development was done in stability of SLI technology. So many times you will notice a microstutter in the graphics. Microstutter is a term used to describe the mismatching framerate among multiple graphic cards operating in a single system. So for a stable and consistent system, go for ATI Radeon HD 7970.
