Can GeForce GTX 680 Kepler support 4 displays

I am about to make my purchase and I need some advice on my next GPU. In my line of work I often have to multitask between 3 to 4 programs at once and I hate minimizing and maximizing when I have to switch between programs. It really slows me down. I recently read an article saying that the GTX680 from nvidia provides support for up to 4 monitors but I am not completely sure about it so if someone could shed some light on its multi-monitor features that would be awesome.

That’s not entirely true. I think it does support 4 monitors but it requires you to have all the monitors to be the same resolution and refresh rate. It can handle four different displays with different resolutions and refresh rates. But it would be highly advisable to get all the 4 monitors of identical resolution and refresh rate to multitask better as the alignment will be proper and no need for manual adjustments.

I also read about this 3D surround and it being applicable to 3 monitors only. If I purchase a 4 monitor setup with this GPU I would expect it run all of them in 3D surround. Thoughts?

Simply put the GPU is not capable of handling 4 monitors combined but will support a 3+1 type configuration using the windows extended mode in that the 3 displays can be seen as one wide display and a fourth display seen as a single secondary display. Also as mentioned earlier in the above post it is perfectly capable of handling 4 displays individually if you opt for it.
