Mac Mini dual-display setup does not detect the monitor

Yesterday I have configured the dual-display in Mac Mini (2010). I have connected the LCD monitor using Mini DisplayPort-to-DVI connector and Sony Bravia LED TV using HDMI output. Now Mac mini shows Samsung monitor as main display. I use Sony TV for watch DVDs and other videos only. Now the problem is sometimes, Mac mini does not detect the LCD monitor. When I turn on, it just directly sends all output to my TV. I don’t know how this was happened. Are there any settings to change in Mac OS X?

Re: Mac Mini dual-display setup does not detect the monitor

When the new monitor is connected to the Mac Mini, it should automatically recognize and should extend the desktop. It is one of the good features of Mac Mini or Mac OS X. So you don’t need to struggle inside the setup window. However in some situations, the system may not able to recognize the newly connected monitor. So for that you need to go to System Preferences >Displays. There you need to set the monitor as mirror or extended desktop

There is a good way to setup the primary display on a Mac. Make sure that you have connected both monitors and turned on:
    • Go to System Preferences> Display icon> ‘Arrangement’ tab.
    • Click and hold the white bar at primary display
    • Drag the bar toward the monitor which you want to place it as a new primary
    • Now you will see the red border around new primary screen. This will let you know which monitor is in use.

If you have already configured the primary display in your Mac Mini, then it will turn out to be default display for apps. This will also include System MenuBar, default desktop icons and contain the Dock. You can run any external display as main display for Mac
