Can you tell me about the BIOS settings? I am suspecting that solution for your problem is hidden into one or more settings of BIOS. Some settings might be preventing usage of RAM and video card installed. so go through the settings and let me know whether you are able to resolve the issue.

As far as I know the thing could be resolved easily if you installed 64 bit version of the Windows. If your GPU + RAM is more than 4 GB than you will need to installed Windows 64 bit rather than of 32 bit of OS.

Usually GPU ram seems to override motherboard ram. If you are having 3GB of memory installed on motherboard then 732 meg would be usable. Since 3GB graphic card would be overriding. To avoid the same it has been already mentioned that one should use Windows 7 x64. It will allow you to optimize usage of RAM as well as Video card which you have installed on the computer. So install it and see whether you are able to resolve the issue which you have stated over here.
