question How to select primary (working) graphics card

    Hello.
Got an XPS recently, came with two video adapters, the nvidia 540M and the "Intel HD Graphics Family". Downloaded the lastest driver from nvidia website, installed it and then disabled the Intel driver, but the screen went black. Had to reboot and enable the Intel driver again (apparently the nvidia was not working either because of the low resolution). Checked the DirectX info (dxdiag) and found that the working video card is the Intel (integrated?). How can I set the nvidia as the working card, or is it supposed to be that way?

    Thanks in advance.

If you are using a second graphics card in your pc instead of the onboard graphics one, then you will first have to disable the onboard graphics from the BIOS setting. Try looking under "Integrated Peripherals" or something similar. Possibly setting the power options in Control Panel to High Performance (Win7) or Workstation (XP) or check the Dell manual to see if it can be disabled in the BIOS.
