Nvidia GTX 570 v/s ATI 6970

I recently purchased PC. I normally use my PC for internet surfing, downloading movies, chatting and especially for gaming. I wanted to purchase a video card for my system but I am confused which one to buy. I have shortlisted two graphic / video cards i.e. Nvidia GTX 570 and ATI 6970. I don’t even know which graphic card would be better for my system. I want the graphic card so that I could play high graphic games in my system. Is anyone aware about this issue? Can anyone please help me out to make an appropriate selection? If yes then please do the needful.

The issue that you have posted seems to be quite interesting. It is very difficult to select any one from the two cards that you have shortlisted. I used both the graphic card Nvidia 570 and ATI 6970 in my system both are excellent graphic cards. According to me both the video cards are equal. The performance of Nvidia is better than ATI. There is not much difference between these cards as compared to price. This is all I know about these cards. Now it is up to you to make the decision regarding which card you prefer to purchase.

After I read your post I came to know about the issue. I will try my level best to help you out as much as I can. The Nvidia 570 wins 1 / 3 of the reference points and the ATI 6970 also wins 1 / 3 of the reference points. They equalize in the other 1 / 3 of the reference points. The 6970 is slightly more efficient than Nvidia 570. It is up to you to decide whether you prefer the drivers of one company over another, what games you can play the most and other such issues. I have always liked ATI and never had a problem with their drivers, but it all comes down to what you want. The comparison of the benchmarks should not be taken into comparison. Cards are very close in comparison. Lower power consumption of the Nvidia card is one thing to keep in mind while making the decision.

I also have PC at home and the graphic card in my system is Nvidia 570. It’s an excellent video card. I am able to play all the games that require high graphics. I haven’t faced any issue with this graphic card. I won’t be switching to another graphic card because I am satisfied with the card that is already present in my system. I also noticed that this card is excellent for digital media programs. I don’t know whether you use it or not. According to me you should surely go for Nvidia 570 and I can assure you that you won’t face any issue with it.

There are many differences between the two graphic cards which I would like to tell you. After knowing all the differences the decision will completely depend on you. The major differences between the two cards are as follows:
1. Memory bandwidth of ATI 6970 is 176 GB/sec while Nvidia 570 has the bandwidth of 152 GB/sec. So ATI 6970 works much faster than Nvidia 570.
2. Pixel rate of ATI 6970 is 28160 Mpixels/sec while Nvidia 570 is having 29280 Mpixels/sec. For high screen resolution Nvidia 570 is a better choice.
3. Texture fill rate of ATI 6970 is 84480 MTexels/sec while Nvidia is having 43920 MTexels/sec. ATI 6970 is better than Nvidia 570 in terms of texture fill rate. Now you are free to make your own decision

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions and responses that you have given me to overcome my issue. I read all the differences that you have posted between the two video cards. Your recommendations helped me a lot to make an appropriate decision. Previously I had discussed this issue with my colleagues but they could not help me to overcome the issue. You are the first person who supported and helped me. Finally I purchased the graphic card ATI 6970.
