What would be upgrading time for the ATI Radeon HD 4870x2

I doubt if time has at last came to update my 4870x2. Money is not important, the heat and rest energy. 48070x2 lets me play my games only at 2560x1600, and the Witcher game is unsteady at the highest setting (not to mention a bit slow). Cannot run smoothly LOTR with the maximum quality. In general, it will run some game at 2560x1600 Dx9 at low settings, but incredibly nice games on the highest quality as The Witcher missing. What are your thoughts? What will I gain from the 580 or the GeForce 6970 (6950 BC). Should I wait two DVIs double bond in 6990? What games are so incredibly awesome in DX11 simply must play at once? At present I'm bearing in mind for selling the 4870x2, have a 6950 and put in one more if required (as in, running another 30-inch monitor without losing my settings TV).

There's actually not anything incorrect with the 4870x2 and carry on to perform as good or better than the 5870 cards as in most situations, while cards like the 6950 and 6970 performance is not quite delivered that blew away the previous generations. In its decision that most likely are hitting the limit of 1 GB of VRAM card, however, for that reason I'll probably see some benefit from a card with more RAM.

I am operating two of these cards in CFX and I must say I obtain astonishing performance of it. I picked up my second card for $ 200 used. I mostly play BC2 details fully and you have to enable 4xAA and vsync or I get horrifying tear running from 80 to 120 + fps. This is 2560x1440, as well. all opinions and points of reference I have seen so far, not many cards they are doing. The jump only to make the 4870x2 is some of the series 6900. 2gb of vram will help you with super high resolution textures and so on. 6950 in CFX should lead any game in this trial and to provide more than 70 fps. I have seen benchmarks showing the 6950 getting a 40fps average, and ranges of card 100% so you double your frame rate. IMO you need 2 6950s to run the 30 "soft. You also might consider CFX in 6870. that scale as well and provide large frames in mass resolution. The 6870s are cheap as well, so two of em wouldnt hurt (about $ 450 for 2).

I'm in the same spot - the 4870x2 has served us well over the years, but the need for more power is increasing rapidly. I'm thinking either a 6970 (to start maybe two?) Or a couple of 6850s/6870 Crossfired. I wonder if we can say conclusively that Antilles/6990 is unlikely to be as powerful as two 6970s, taking into account the data so far. If this is the case, I can discard. The other important thing holding me back is the issue of "deluxe version" 6900 series. Remember the standard 5870, 2GB Eyefinity 6 and 2 GB versions of the card Overclocked leaders improved as the 5870 Platinum Asus ROG Matrix? I really hope they do not pull the "Oh, we have two versions of RAM that comes right after the first of the year" card from us.

The 4870x2 was the most excellent lone video card purchase decision I eternally made. Lasted way longer than any other card I've owned, but I'm finally moving forward. I want DX11 and run almost all games 8xAA and still get 40 fps in 1920x1200 action sequences. So today ordered a 6970. The 4870x2 will shift to my less important PC (which is in fact just as powerful as my main one than the GTS 250 video card), and 6970 will be the video card in my main PC. However, I have to say that in fact did not yet need to update. The 4870x2 easily has enough legs to last a full cycle update if I play at 1920x1200 or less. It was just time for me, but I can see that many people with a delay of even two generations (for series 8000).

I also want someone that the new benched 6,950 and 6,970 cards have included the venerable 4870x2 in their results. As far as I know I still have their weight in some scenarios. I've been waiting on the upswing, but have finally cracked and bought an XFX 6950 with intentions to release a 6970 performance. My 4870x2 has been a blessing for me. It performs fairly fine for a lengthy time, but has had its share of troubles ... some who have never gone. I'll also vouch for the purchase of a single GPU card in two for compatibility reasons. The movement of heat, noise and air of the 4870 x2 was ridiculous that is why he stayed away from getting one of Fermi. Also as another poster mentioned the cross-burning was beaten and losing. At least it seems that 6950 is going very well in the crossfire. I have a 30 "monitor at 2560x1600 and nearly all expected to get another if all goes as estimated.
