AMD Eyefinity is compatible with Windows XP?

My cousin has recently bought AMD Eyefinity but he is facing some problems with it. Initially we all thought that there must be some defect in graphic card, so we put that into other system. But in other system it was working properly. Only the differences between two system was operating system and some minor hardware parts. But according to me, none should make big issue. Someone told me that AMD Eyefinity might not compatible with Windows XP. And then I thought, this can be reason for not working properly. So I decided to post here, since you all have solve my doubts number of times. Along with that it would be appreciable if you people explain me about the AMD Eyefinity with multiple screen.

You should have asked about the compatibilities before going for specific graphic card. Because this graphic card is supported only in Windows Vista and Windows 7. Unfortunately you are having Windows XP which does not supports this graphic card. So the only option is either ti change the graphic card or an operating system. Now talking more about AMD Eyefinity, while NVIDIA is focusing on 3D stereoscopic solution Eyefinity AMD aims to broaden the vision of the player by allowing him to play three or six screens. It is neither more nor less than the concept of surround-gaming AMD is up to date, a concept which had already rubbed some Matrox. Focus on technology Eyefinity.

To drive three screens, AMD's architecture review of its graphics chips and integrated management of multiple independent outputs. Precisely for this reason that the Radeon HD 5770, Radeon HD 5850 and 5870 have systematically other two DVI and a DisplayPort connector. Indeed, if the AMD chips can handle up to six tunnels display, only two can be DVI or HDMI. It will necessarily go through the DisplayPort connector to the third screen. Two solutions are possible: to buy a screen provided with a connector DisplayPort - which frankly does not run the streets - or lean on the side of the adapters 'assets' (around 80 euros). As for the proposed six-screen configuration with AMD Eyefinity, it will this time have a specific version of the Radeon HD 5870 to hope to connect, all in DisplayPort.

In its three-screen configuration, the technology allows AMD Eyefinity therefore to extend the player's field of view horizontally, whereas with six screens, the field of vision is expanded both vertically and horizontally. However, AMD supports other combinations of displays, especially with 4 screens, then the fourth screen is used in enhanced mode. Until now the main technical problem for the implementation of such solutions was limiting the number of outputs on the graphics cards. Typically, a graphics card can drive traditional two screens independently. Problem, playing with two screens, this is not what is most convenient, especially in a shooting game where the pattern is found just to the physical separation of the screens. Hence including the implementation of AMD's three displays.

Once the three screens connected to our Radeon HD 5870, in this case, Dell 24-inch, the machine starts up normally and the signal is replicated on them. Have a desktop that is repeated on three screens is not necessarily the most useful thing. We must therefore make a detour to the drivers Catalyst to create a single display surface or more exactly a group of screens. The procedure is relatively simple and actually quite neat. The creation of a group can transform our three screens in a single display assembly. Also the resolution of our office goes to 1920x1200 pixels to 5760x1200 pixels while the Windows taskbar stretches now on the three monitors connected to the graphics card.

Small problem, however, the sequence of screens is not good and the Windows Start menu can be found on the central screen. No panic in this situation, AMD has provided a wizard to reconfigure the screens in four clicks to restore order in the display. From there, there's nothing to do except play the game of choice. It appears, once configured, on three screens with risk, not least, to see some videos have completely distorted stretched because unless this is the game itself that makes the cost of such a phenomenon. Of all the games we have tested the resolution of 5760x1200 pixels inordinate, almost 7 million pixels, was indeed accessible and usable, and that, even with the latest version of Need For Speed. Still, it is possible some games with DirectX 9.0, so older titles rather, meet some limitations, especially as they have obviously not been designed with the idea that such resolutions graphics would one day reach.

Last accuracy, the current drivers provided by AMD can not adjust something important, however: the thickness of the edge of the screen. Now this parameter is important because it generates a slight lag between the display screens: a few months, AMD will provide an update of Catalyst to integrate this functionality. In short if not revolutionize PC gaming, AMD innovates ... something we had almost lost the habit! As for NVIDIA, it should propose with its GeForce 100, GeForce or rather 470 and 480, a solution combining the 3D rendering to display on multiple screens ...
