Should I go for AMD Radeon HD 6970?

At the output of the Radeon HD 6870 and HD 6850, AMD said that we had these cards did not replace the 5870 and 5850 but they were the new midrange ATI. AMD continues to renew its line of graphics cards and the task teams ATI is tough, it's the least we can say. Indeed, the Radeon HD 5000, the first DirectX 11 compatible cards have enjoyed great success and were sold to many copies. Also I read that 6870 was actually less efficient than the 5870 and 6850, down compared to 5850. Now I don't want to take risk while purchasing the AMD Radeon HD 6970. So I want to take some advice from you members. Please tell something more about this card.

AMD prolongs to renovate its line of graphics cards and the task teams ATI is tough, it's the least we can say. Certainly, the Radeon HD 5000, the first DirectX 11 compatible cards have enjoyed immense accomplishment and were sold too many copies. Combining performance, restrained, good cooling, noise controlled and fair prices, these cards have influenced many consumers. The lack of reaction towards Nvidia has perceptibly had not impeded their task at the time. Their successor is not an easy task. When the output of the Radeon HD 6870 and HD 6850, you have been to many remarkable performance of these graphic cards. The 6870 is actually less competent than the 5870 and 6850, down compared to 5850. In fact, AMD is taking a dissimilar classification for its 6000 series with the 6800 making up the midrange and 6900 representing the high end. Where the 6800 hit hard is the level of tariffs. Definitely, the 6850 is from 160 euros, while offering better performance in 5830 which was sold more expensive, while the 6870 is available from 215 euros, or less costly than the 5850 when it was released, while by offering more performance. Upon arrival, Nvidia was forced to piercingly decrease the price of its GTX 460 and GTX 470 for face.

Actually NVIDIA has staggered everyone by leaving the GeForce GTX 580 and GTX 570 cards which are now more reputable. Consumption is still significant, but is now appropriately self-indulgent by a radiator worthy of the name, limiting the noise at the similar time. Besides, these new cards perform better than the GTX 480 and GTX 470 they substitute and have enabled the firm to the back on the front of the stage on the high end. In presentation material of Cayman, it goes wrong from the outset. Indeed, AMD's Radeon HD 5970 positioned slightly above the GTX 580 while the Radeon HD 6970 is set slightly above the GTX 470 and not the GTX 570, AMD forgotten in the slides. The Radeon HD 6950 for his part is placed between the GTX 460 and GTX 470. Clearly, the long awaited big GPU Cayman is not the same ilk as Fermi and the GTX 580.

While we have grown accustomed to seeing AMD fight against the high-end Nvidia with dual-GPU solutions but the promise of a big GPU we had been led to expect that the Sunnyvale firm successfully compete with Nvidia's high end with a single-GPU card. Cayman is a new GPU AMD announced as being equipped with two graphics engines. In effect, where Barts had one graphics engine manager SIMD units, Cayman has two, each capable of managing two sets of 12 SIMD engines, a maximum total of 24 SIMD engines. ATI's goal is to improve the computing capabilities of the GPU by increasing the parallelism of all available threads but also to improve the capacity of tessellation, a field in which the ATI 5000 have fished compared to Nvidia.

In terms of memory, the Radeon HD 6900 marked a new evolution for a graphics card manufacturer since a reference boarded each 2 GB of GDDR5 connected to a 256-bit bus. ATI is also launching a new quality mode called EQAA for Enhanced Quality Anti-Aliasing. This is a new mode of MSAA (muti sampling anti-aliasing) offering superior quality without consuming more memory. While 8X MSAA allows to have 8 points per pixel, 8x EQAA allows to be 16 per pixel. This new mode is controllable via the ATI Catalyst drivers. You can get much more to know about this graphic card from AMD Radeon HD 6970 Graphic Card.

Beyond that, two major new features are introduced on the Radeon HD 6900: a dual-BIOS and technology PowerTune. Let's start with the latter whose goal is to optimize the performance and management of watts consumed. Basically, this is a Turbo mode as we know in the world of processors. Indeed, the goal is to maximize the GPU while not exceeding the predefined TDP for the card. To do this, a processor inside the card will check the power requirements for each clock cycle. This information, this processor will be used to directly control the electrical needs of the GPU without having to go through the usual pattern frequency / voltage. This feature is only available on the Radeon HD 6900 in the Catalyst drivers, the panel reserved for the Overdrive.

The second novelty is the presence of two bios on the graphics card. It is located behind the Crossfire connectors and takes the form of a small switch with two positions. Position 1 provides access to an unprotected bios to make changes while position 2 is protected bios set to factory values. You'll understand the position 2 serves bios backup in case of maneuver indelicate, bios corrupted or overclocking too presumptuous. The specifications of the Radeon HD 6970 24 engines assigned to it SIMD computation is 1536 units, 96 texture units, 32 ROPs and 2 GB of GDDR5. The Radeon HD 6950 for its part has only SIMD 22, 1408 calculation units, 88 texture units and 32 ROPs but still 2 GB of GDDR5 also.
