    Ati Radeon 5870 Gpu Architecture

I am thinking to buy the ATI RADEON 5870. But I don't have enough information about it. Now I am looking for the architectural information of RADEON 5870. I have tried to search on the Web but didn't find an appropriate results. So thought that someone from your side can provide me the needful information. So please provide the detailed architecture for the ATI RADEON 5870.

In this issue we look at the Radeon HD 5870, but know that ATI will very soon bring to market its Radeon HD 5850 which has been officially launched at the same time as the HD 5870 but still today have not yet deigned to show even the smallest transistor in the form of sample dedicated to the press. A little later, the brand will also release Hemlock none other than the successor of the Radeon HD 4870X2 and you'll understand include two Radeon HD 5870.

Like most stealth radeon HD 4770, this new GPU from AMD / ATI is engraved in 40nm course which allows the brand to beat the record for the GT200 with 2.15 billion transistors in a 334mm die for, against only 1.4 billion for the latest nVIDIA GPU and 965 million for the Radeon HD 4870. The latter took him in a 263mm die for. AMD has increased more than twice the amount of transistors from the RV770 and also took the opportunity to multiply by two much of the key elements of its GPU.

Re: Ati Radeon 5870 Gpu Architecture

To comply with DX11, Cypress has a new tessellation unit (the 6th for Radeon) fully programmable which takes advantage of a new algorithm that aims to reduce artifacts. The textures are managed 16x16k, like the HDR compression 32 and 64bit, and ATI also took the opportunity to improve its algorithm for anisotropic texture filtering. So if the RV770 included 800 stream processors, it has always shared this time in 1600 in a SIMD architecture. Cypress thus includes 20 SIMD cores, each with 16 stream processors within which we find five more units (20x16x5 = 1600). But that's not all because the texture units also double. There were 40 HD 4870, and this time each has 4 cores with SIMD which gives us a total of 80 units. Similarly, each unit has a higher bandwidth so that the amount of cache doubled to 128KB. Other good news, the ROPs also spend 16 to 32 cons before, and therefore equals the amount available on the nVIDIA GT200.

Re: Ati Radeon 5870 Gpu Architecture

One of the traditions of the small world of 3D is the simultaneous arrival of a major overhaul of the DirectX API and NVIDIA GPU integrating its latest features. This was the case with the GeForce 7 and DirectX with DirectX 8 and the Geforce 3 and closer to us with DirectX 10 and GeForce 8800 . In essence, it takes up very precisely seven years ago that this habit is broken, ATI has pulled the rug from under the feet of his rival in the famous outgoing Radeon 9700 Pro even before the arrival of DirectX 9. Subsequent generations have been less successful in including ATI R520 and R600 experiencing major delays to change strategy. So with the RV770 AMD has chosen to abandon the traditional monolithic GPU to move towards an architecture oriented performance per watt and performance per mm of die.

Windows 7 is upon us and with it the new variation of DirectX, version 11. It is automatically incorporated into the new operating system from Microsoft, but will be available for download to update Windows Vista. Who says new version of DirectX, said new generation of graphics cards compatible with this new API, the aim is obviously to take advantage of new visual effects in our favorite games but also features that go beyond the fun. As often taking advantage of DirectX 11 games are not available for launch but will be later.

ATI is very proud to introduce its first DirectX 11 compatible GPU, the Radeon HD 5870. Engraved 40 nanometers, this GPU based Radeon HD 4000 has a load capacity of 2.7 TFlops. For its GT200, Nvidia has developed a huge and complex chip and it's not for nothing that the company long before the chameleon will release a dual GPU card when AMD came out very quickly X2 4870. Today, Nvidia is not ready with its future DirectX 11 chips and are expected to better end of the year and most likely for early 2010. Nvidia took the opportunity to remind us that games supporting DirectX 11 would not be very numerous in 2009 and 2010 but the PhysX-enabled games would abound.
