5770 in a quad crossfire setup

I have seen plenty of benchmarks on 3x 5770 additional than no 4x crossfire setups. My motherboard has 4 pci articulate slots so I might do 4 x 5770, I am presently wondering if it would be comparable to a 5970. Or is the CPU such a big bottleneck that it would not work.
