    Monitor not higher than 1280 x 1024

    Hi Guys,

My screen turned black all of a sudden. When I tried to reboot my PC, the monitor displayed: Entering sleep mode and the screen went black. My computer was booted, but my screen displayed nothing. So I tested with another screen-cable and put it in the analog port of my screen. My computer booted, but in a 1280 x 1024 resolution. When I try to change the resolution, I get
    "Analog
    Out of range
    74.5 kHz / 60 Hz"
error message and the screen goes back to 1280 x 1024 again. Also, when I tried to start a game I get a "Failed to find a suitable display device"-error.

    Specs:
    LG204WT
    Windows Vista 64-bit
    Nvidia Geforce 8800GTX

What can be the problem? Monitor? GPU? Or is it just the digital-port cable?

    Kind regards,

    Tilkas

It could be the GPU or the display. Either the GPU is not detecting the resolution (hardware or software issue) or the monitor isn't providing the information. For such low resolutions though you can't go wrong with whatever is cheapest. Graphic difference would be minimum. If your system installed the correct driver to the new monitor or used a default driver to run it, this is what you want your system to do to run your old monitor. UN-install the driver from your system and remove the drivers to a temp folder. Reinstall monitor to use a default driver to check it.

    Thanks for your reply.
This isn't a new monitor tho. It is just my original monitor that worked like a charm for 3 years, and then all of a sudden turned black. I will try the driver thing asap. Also, is it a good idea to try my monitor on my sisters pc to check if it can handle 1650 x 1080? If it works, does this mean that the problem is definately my GPU (either software or hardware)?

    Kind regards,

    Tilkas

Yes, you can go ahead with this thing. But If you force this reoslution and if your display is screwed, then you can turn it down by logging into safe mode. All the best!

Re: Monitor not higher than 1280 x 1024

Got some new information. My computer doesn't recognise my monitor, so no matter what type of monitor I plug in (tried 3 different ones), the computer just displays a 1280 x 1024 desktop. At the device manager, the 'monitors' tab just disappeared. There is a yellow question mark at the Display adapters tab, telling me that there is a 'code 43' error. I removed the 8800gtx driver and installed the latest one: same error. I am not able to play any games, not even minesweeper.
My guess is that there is something wrong with my GPU hardware. On the other hand, if my GPU was broken, would my computer even boost at all in normal mode? And wouldn't it display a 800 x 600 screen instead of 1280 x 1024?
    Any solutions?
