This seems like an excellent reading monitor , it having really good pixel structure and the contrast issues are less visible on high contrast text (black on white, for example) as long as the aspect ratio is also fine enough for you. If you were considering a portrait use monitor for web browsing, this would be great .
Pros: This is simply a fantastic monitor. If only on its industrial design and feature set this model is a winner. It's got a very thin bezel, and its case is generally very low profile and aesthetically unobtrusive. It's got two digital and one analog input that can be selected with a single button push on the front bezel (are you listening Acer??) It's got a tilt and swivel base, and still doesn't look like something out of a manga. I can see why some people wouldn't like the power light, but it's really quite tasteful, and for those who really can't stand it I have two words: *Electrical Tape* . All of those factors, however, are nothing in comparison to the real reason this is such an excellent monitor: it's proprietary Samsung S-PVA LCD panel.
Cons: It might have been convenient if one of the inputs had been an HDMI, as opposed to HDCP enabled DVI, but adapters are often provided by video card manufacturers anyway, so no biggie. (It comes with both a dual ferrite DVI and a VGA cable) . This is not a cheap crummy TN based LCD with a 2 ms GTG response time. When panning full screen in Photoshop or watching a movie with very fast panning or hand-held camera shots you might experience some minor visual tearing. This might be worse in games ,But this is not a crappy gaming monitor, this is a low-end professional imaging monitor. I found the response time adequate for watching movies without being distracted. If you don't know the difference between TN, IPS and PVA LCD technologies, then do your homework, and don't be mad if you buy the wrong thing. If being the most l33t gamer in the quadrant is the most important thing to you, then buy a crappy TN panel. If you're actually interested in color reproduction, you might like this.
