    Power supply for HD 3870

    Hi friends,

    My System Specifications

    asus p5n32sli-e deluxe
    e6300 a 2.13 oced 2.4
    2x 2gb ddr667
    1x dvd writer
    7900GT edition
    2 250gb hardrives
    ocz xtreme 420W

I have recently bought HD 3870. I have irregular crashes when playing games. sometimes the game freezes and then the computer and I have to reboot.

So my question is, Will my ocz xtreme 420W be able to power this ?

HD 3870 draws about 150W under load and requires a single 6pin PCI-E power cable but you may face problem in Crossfire. 420W is not enough if you Crossfire HD 3870. also would not go overclcoking your system and the card as that would be really pushing it.

you should be fine running the HD3870 even with 380W Antec PS. and even if you are buying new, go for 500W certainly, but if you already have a good quality 420W, I'd say try it before upgrading.

    Thanks for the reply.

I am planning to order 550w corsair with 41A on the rail. it will be more effective if i crossfire my HD 3870. I can also go for 3870 X2 as in two GPU's!
