Re: How to determine type of video-card?

There are several methods of determining the type of video card in your computer.
    One of them is--

    Open an MS-DOS prompt.
In Windows 95/98 and Windows NT 4.0 : Click Start >> Programs >> Click either MS-DOS Prompt or Command Prompt.
In Windows 3.x or Windows NT versions before 4.0 : Double Click Main group >> Double Click the MS-DOS icon.

In the MS-DOS window that opens, type: Debug press Enter key.

A dash should appear on your screen followed by a flashing cursor. Type: D C000:0010 and press Enter key.

A screen of hexadecimal numbers will appear with the ASCII translation on the far right edge of the screen. The information will include the identifier for your video card.

Type: Q and press Enter key to exit the debug program.

Type: Exit and press Enter key to return to the Operating System.

Unplug everything from the back of the computer and open the computer case and look for any visual identification directly off of the video card or motherboard.
Many times you can find the manufacturer name, model, serial number, and/or other unique identifications that can be used to identify the type of video card or video chipset you have.

This is very simple and physical method of determining type of video-card as no technical logic is required.

Some more methods of determining type of video card :

    1. Many versions of Microsoft Windows will automatically detect and install your video card.
Assuming no video issues currently exist with the video card you can determine the type of video card under display adapters in Device Manager.
    2. Download one of the third-party programs.
    3. Many video cards and chipsets will list the type of video card and/or memory during the POST.
Try rebooting the computer and as it is first booting press the "Pause / Break" key to temporarily halt the computer's boot process and read the text on the screen.
