    Sapphire RADEON X1600 problem

    Hello experts!
My old PC now has begun to sputter after a few minutes in games like Counter-Strike. I am afraid it is my GPU, which gets too hot. Over the last twenty minutes, it peaked at 82.1 degrees without being exposed to a specific pressure (vacuum cleaner I have my computer thoroughly). It is constantly around 80 degrees, although it is shortly after boot, or I write this message here in Firefox.
What could be wrong? Hoes it because of my GPU, or is there something else wrong?

My computer consists of the following:
    Mother Board: Gigabyte SiS 661FX.
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 processor 530, 3 GHz.
    RAM: 2 x 512 MB, 400 MHz.
Graphics: Sapphire RADEON X1600, 512 MB.
    OS: Windows XP.

Thank you in advance for your help

It is not unusual that the fan sooner or later get off - especially if it has been running for several years. Graphics may tolerate relatively high degrees of heat, but 80 c idle is probably just at the high end - so you might end up close to 100 c when playing.

    You can:

    • Buy new graphics card (they are still better than your X1600)
    • Buy a new fan to the graphics card and screw it on.
    • Lower the ambient temperature around the map, for example. a 80 mm fan blowing across the card. It can be connected to a normal molex connector.

the most durable enough 1, 2, is smart but can cost several hundred ingenious dollars for an older card - 3 is a little something rubbish, but should bring the temperature down.

Thank you for your reply, I think I chose option 1 Are there any restrictions to my machine when I need to select a new card? And you have good experiences with a special? Has the RAM beyond any meaning for my graphics card?

Do you have a fan in the side of your computer?

It would be a good idea because you sure will have the same problem again ..

and if you wish to dispose of the heat you just need to mount a radiator between Processes and graphics card in your cabinet as a fan of ..

(cooler / fan can be turned on)

First, many thanks for your reply It's great to be able to get help when we ourselves are not so savvy in the business.

I have found out what my motherboard says: "GA-8S661FXMP-RZ". As far as I can see the PCI x 3 AGP x8 and x1. In that case, should I still look for an AGP graphics card?

I must install a fan to air the entire computer? Second, I do not really. Should I install an additional cooler between my CPU and graphics cards, or between the GPU and what?

    Thanks again for your help.
