    Re: Monitor failure?

There are numerous problems that can cause the monitor to not produce a picture at all. Usually they are electrical problems within the monitor, some of which can be repaired.

If the monitor appears to be totally dead, then make sure that the monitor is plugged in and turned on, and see if it has power. Check for a power-on indicator on the front of the monitor, and check to see if the monitor warms up. Then select the appropriate general failure troubleshooting section, based on whether or not the monitor appears to have power.

I'll suggest you to try reseating your memory and processor first. Then check the power supply. Then reseat the video card. Hopefully it is just something like that -- otherwise, you're likely looking at a faulty component.

    Re: Monitor failure?

First check is there power light blinking on monitor? If yes then is good. There can be many different possible reasons why the monitor would not have any display signal, including a possible problem with the video card itself.

    Now try this steps:-

    1. Make sure that this monitor will work with the PC that it is connected to.

    2. Try the monitor with a different PC and see if it works.

    3. Check the brightness and contrast controls. Make sure that they are turned up; a brightness control turned all the way down can make a monitor appear to be dead when it is actually working fine.

    4. There may be a problem with the cable or video card, preventing the monitor from getting the right signal. Troubleshoot the connection from the PC to the monitor.

    5. Try changing any of the other controls on the front of the monitor to see if something is set incorrectly. Sometimes setting the controls to a strange combination can cause the monitor to not display properly.

    6. If you cannot get the monitor to function you will probably have to get it repaired. You will need to decide if the repair is worthwhile, but usually getting an estimate at least makes sense.

    Re: Monitor failure?

If the monitor appears to be totally dead more of often it’s usually the power cable to the plug which has blown.

    Or

Make sure the video cable securely plugged in between the monitor and the computer.

Does the video cable have any signs of damage? Breaks in video cables can happen, check against a working cable.

What’s the length of the computer cable? Depending on the power of the video signal, the maximum cable length could be less than 5 metres, especially if you are attempting to display your computers image on a TV

Switch off the monitor and computer, leave for 30 seconds and switch both on together, on some older monitors if the monitor is on before the computer then it may not detect the video signal from the computer.

    Or

Power off the monitor and computer, leave for 30 seconds and power back on.

Has the computer or the monitor changed? Is so it may mean the computer does not like the resolution or refresh rate that the computer is trying to get the monitor to run at, from Windows at start-up hit the F8 key this will allow you to enter the computer is VGA or safe mode, once you’ve logged in you can change the video setting from Control Panel > Display to one that’s compatible with the monitor.

What type of video input are you using on the monitor? Many monitors have more than one video input, if so your monitor will have a select button on the front to cycle between monitors.

Make sure you are using the latest version of video drivers available for your video card / monitor
