some tips on buying video card for my system

my system configuration
intel pentium d 2.6ghz
axper motherboard with 64 mb in built video memory
2 512 mb ram 400 mhz ddr1
i want to buy an graphic card for plz suggest which one will suit for my system..
i am thinking buying 256mb or 512 mb graphic card of nvdia or ati...
