How to track a project using second baselinee in Project 2010

I made a mistake by saving the project to Baseline4 instead of updating the the Baseline. Now when I run any project report, I don't get the true variances because MS project tracks and calculates the variances according to the Baseline, not second baseline.

My question - Is there a way to override Baseline with Baseline4 (there are updates applied to the project since Baseline4) or reporting of off Baseline4?

    Any tip is appreciated.

You can change which baseline Project uses to calculate variance.
In Project 2010: File > Options, Advanced. In the Earned Value Options for This Project portion, select "Baseline 4" from the drop-down Baseline for Earned Value Calculations.

    In Project 2007 and earlier:
Tools > Options, Calculation tab. Click the Earned Value button and then select the correct baseline.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you Julie.

It did help to change the earned value calculation, but in the slipping task reports, it still uses the Baseline for start/finish var. calculations. What else I should do to switch that to Baseline4?

The Slipping Tasks report use the standard Variance table as the basis of the report. You can either modify the Variance table to add Baseline4 Start and Baseline4 Finish or create a custom table and use that for the report.

You may also want to modify the Slipping Tasks filter and have the filter oint to Baseline4 Finish instead of Baseline Finish.

    I hope this helps.

So glad to hear there is a way to fix my problem. Do you know how to modify the standard variance table or modify the Slipping Tasks filter?

    To modify the Variance table:

    1. Apply the Variance table to the Task Sheet (left side) of the Gantt chart view through View > Table > More Tables.
    2. Then remove the fields you don't need by clicking on the column heading and pressing delete.
    3. Add the fields you want to see through a right click and choose "Insert Column" in the shortcut menu.

To modify the Slipping Tasks filter:
    1. Project > Filtered For > More Filters.
    2. Select the filter in the list and click "Edit".
    3. Change any reference to Baseline Finish to Baseline 4 Finish.

    I hope this helps.

Hi Julie - is your "Project > Filtered For > More Filters' for project 2010? I am not seeing Filtered for under project.

Sorry for being such a pest.
