2010 visual report not working with excel 2010

My MS Project 2010 Visual Report writer is not working with Excel 2010.

I get the error "This Operation requires that you have Excel 2003 or later installed on your computer" I am confused because I do haha, I have 2010.

Is this a known issue or is there a problem on my side?

I am trying to export the dynamic data for a Pivot Table.

I done it recently with MS project 2007 and Excel 2007 but now I am at a new employer.

Hello skier9er,

Double check your legacy file format settings on the File > Options. Check that "Allow loading...." is selected.

Is this in Excel or Project? I cant find the " allow loading" setting in either.

I just found in project options under security_Legacy Formats_ "Allow Loading files with legacy or non default file formats". And it does not work still comes up with same error- Install 2003 or later.

You can try the below fix to solve this issue:

1. First you need to go into C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14 and copy the EXCEL.EXE file you find there.
2. After that simply paste into the following directory: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12
3. Lastly close and reopen Project. Everything seems to work fine on my machine now. Guess it's a bug that'll get caught in an upcoming service pack.

Hi Skier,

I cannot reproduce this on a Windows 7 machine with only Office 2010 and Project 2010 installed.

Do you have a previous version of either Project or Excel installed? The fix that Expertz suggests does seem to work if you have older versions of Project installed.
