MKV files in My Videos in Media Center?

How can i force Media Center 2005 to accept files with the .mkv file extension? I have different format files and Media Center is recognizing .mpg, .mov,
..avi, .mp4, etc but i don't know why is it not recognizing .mkv files. Currently i have tried converting .mkv file to .avi extension and Media Center is recognizing it but i cant do that for all files that i have, so i want to know if i can Media Center 2005 to accept files with the .mkv file extension in anyways?

I think mkv file type might not be a registered file type in your registry and you will have to rename it so that you "My Videos" can access mkv files directly. Just type "regedit" in run , navigate to \HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and make sure .mkv exists there.
    They should have below values
    Content Type REG_SZ video/mkv
    PerceivedType REG_SZ video
They should be defined within the .mkv entry
