WMPNetworkSvc Fails to Start

This is windows XP computer which got corrupted last week. I formatted the C drive and re-installed XP with SP3. After it completed when I checked the System Events, I found this listed over there:

“A new media server was not initialized because WMCreateDeviceRegistration() encountered error '0xc00d2711'. The Windows Media DRM components on your computer might be corrupted. Verify that protected files play correctly in
Windows Media Player, and then restart the WMPNetworkSvc service.”

I don’t have any idea regarding this? Can you guys please tell me what is it related to? Thank you.

Can you just open Windows Media Player and see what is listed under WMP's Help:About:Technical Support Information menu tool? Also meanwhile just try resetting your DRM cache. If you don’t know how to do that, just check this.

I had this problem couple of months on one of my office’s PC. I did some research and managed to fix it by changing startup type of some services. You can do this by going to Start > RUN > services.msc > Enter.

Now scroll down and locate Cryptographic Services. Double click the same and set startup type to Automatic. In my case it was disabled and hence I was facing the problem.

Thanks for that, mine was set to manual for some reason and wasn't starting when I booted the PC.
