WMP 11 in Vista cannot play DVD media

From the hard drive Windows Media Player is able to play the video just fine and every other DVD, avi file and mpeg-2 file work fine without any issues. If I try to burn those files to a DVD then WMP 11 will not be able to play them from the DVD. In Power dvd the disks play fine on the same computer as well as on different computer with Windows XP on WMP 10. The error that I am getting is "Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. You might need to adjust your Windows display settings. Open display settings in Control Panel, and then try lowering your screen resolution and color quality settings". Can anyone please hel me out. Thanks

You can download an alternate media player like the VLC Media Player by searching it on google, which is also absoltely free. VLC media player can be also used as a server to stream audio / video over the network (supporting protocols IPv4 and IPv6). To play media files without having to install additional codecs, all are already "embedded" in the program. VLC can play DVD and streaming unencrypted (without DRM) video (IPTV) and Internet radio as well. The program also can record streaming audio / video to your computer.

It seems to me that the codec, that is installed in your pc, might have got corrupted. So what you can do is download the free K-Lite Codec Pack by searching it on the net and install it on your pc. K-Lite Codec Pack is a free codec pack which includes more than 40 video and audio codecs, from Xvid, DivX and Matroska to movie files like OGG, FLAC and AAC songs. The installer for K-Lite Codec Pack has eight different user profiles, which allow you to personalize the content that you install on your computer.

Can you try to verify that a compliant decoder is installed: In Windows Media Player, on the Tools menu, click Options to see if the DVD tab is available. If a compatible decoder is not properly installed, the DVD tab will not be available. If you are unable to successfully play a DVD, try playing a different title to make sure that the problem is not content specific. Try reducing the Hardware Acceleration.
Have you tried reducing the Hardware Acceleration and checked if that is working for you:
    1. First of all open Screen Resolution by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, and then, under Appearance and Personalization, clicking Adjust screen resolution
    2. After that you have to click Advanced settings,Troubleshoot tab, and then click Change settings.
    3. Now, you have to move the Hardware acceleration slider toward None to reduce or turn off video hardware acceleration.
    4. Now just click OK, and then click Restart Now
