If you are quite sure that windows media player has started coming up with above error message after installing some updates than i will suggest you to do a system restore. System restore will help you out in getting rid of the recent updates that you might have got installed and will help you overcome this error. Just make sure that you are restoring to a point when windows media player was working fine.

Before trying out system restore simply Go to c:\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome and delete all sub folders and files present there. If that doesn't makes any difference in your case than you can run System File Checker (sfc). If at all you don't get any help with that as well than you can try performing system restore.
