Default video CODEC

I’m received an email with MPG file. I want to play it on Windows Media Player 11 on XP SP3 computer but I get some error message saying that I need a codec to play the same.

At the same time when I try playing it in VLC, Nero Showtime and other players, it works fine. But as I use WMP as my default application I need to play it in this itself. Can anyone of you please tell me where can I get the codec for download?

First of all you must check the WMP's Help:about:Technical Support Information menu tool and see what it has listed under MPEG filters. Let me know the results.

Thanks a lot for your help buddy, but managed to fix the problem by simply uninstalling a decoder and softwares associated with it. That’s it. Issue fixed. BTW, these were listed under that WMP tool:
