Video and Audio Out of Sync

I have installed windows XP on my system. Even I have Windows Media Player 11 installed on my system. Now the problem is that when I am trying to play my video, video and audio are not playing simultaneously. Whenever I pause for any reason, it throw off the message audio video match up. How I can fix this problem?
