Yes the MTNL/BSNL plans are nothing but a trigger for other ISPs to give a better plan than the previous one. With my Hotwire ISP I am now getting 128kbps unlimited for the same price as the 64k unlimited. I think that is the best plan I can have for now over here in Noida.

Methinks all the plans so far are totally uninteresting. BSNL is not even in Delhi, so screw them. MTNL's rates suck badly.

Any plan with limited data transfer is completely useless.

Any plan under .5 Mbit is utterly useless.

But then again, I'm from Denmark, where you get 4 MBit for 2800 rs/ month (unlimited). But, I live here and currently, sigh, my cable wallah has gone mad. I have an on/off cable connection which is worse than a 1900 baud dial-up. One day, its the fog that makes it go off. Then its the rain. Then he forgets to switch on the router after messing with it. SIGH. INSANELY USELESS!!!!

This is the only thing in India which looks ok, so far: http://www.spectra-smart.com/packages.htm

Any rumors on when Reliance will take use of their 40.000 km of fibre optics to deliver *true* broadband to India?

IN2Cable Mumbai newly-reduced rates as of 7 Feb 2005 : Read and be AMAZED!:
    32kbps Unlimited : Rs.771 Monthly.
    64kbps Unlimited : Rs. 1653 Monthly.
No other ISP in the area, total in2crap monopoly. This is the hell i live in.

does spectranet operate in New Delhi ????

if so the 256 unlimited plan has got me interesting.

Why don't Bsnl and Mtnl just copy Spectranet for their 256 kbps unlimited plan ? what's the harm ??

Looks like the people must raide their voice now, Mtnl and other ISP's are claiming their services in boradband connection, they are just playing with us!!
not even a single decent plans for heavy downloaders.

I took the Hathway Liteway 256kbps UNLIMITED 8 to 8 conx for 400/- per month. Got the conx in 6 days. They charge 100.- month for modem hire. Is Hathway there in your area ? I got the conx on 10th Feb and get about 95mb/hour downloads @ 32KB/s

Doubt regarding the BSNL broadband service!

Can anyone who has a BSNL broadband connection(Dataone) please clarify this. They said that they are providing unlimited download/upload upto june 31st for all of those who register within the date of march 31st.Is this true? Are there any other conditions regarding this. Please clarify and thanks in advance.

There are no conditions except that u will have to register (and pay) by 31th march.

Ok i have got the connection and i must say that i am impressed.I am getting between 30-35 kbps download speed in any file queued up in download accelerator and i am getting the same in a p2p network(Limewire) as well although the file downloading on p2p fluctuates more but that is to be expected. The best part is the unlimited download.I have 4 months uptil june 30 for unlimited upload/download .

When they came to my house to fit the connection up they saw my 2 phones that had been connected to the same line and said that it should not be like that so i had my electrician rewire everything .It is very important because they actually went and came back only after i had finished this so i will warn u that i think it not only makes a considerable difference but you will have a problem on the phone when u talk as well but i believe it is a must whatever the case may be.EDIT-What existed was that my 2 lines were given both from the same phone box.I had to take instead 1 line to the phone in my room and then connect it in series with the phone downstairs. If you do this it will provide you with better download speeds and no disconnection. There should be no parallel wiring.

Very valuable info there! Cant believe they actually went and came back later A good heads-up for all of us to make sure our wiring is right before they come.

BTW, I guess they install some kind of "Splitter" or something at the phone line - With one end going to the phone and the other to the Modem right? How exactly is their installation process?

Yeah well you can get them to install it anyway but they highly recommended to do this first so i did it.The installation process is extremely simple. The splitter with 2 connections was already there for me and all they did was plug one into the phone and the other to the modem. They will already have created your username and password and then they will just create the connection and log you on.It took 5 minutes and it went smoothly without any hiccups but the best part is that i get high d/l speeds and no disconnection, connection is instant.
