Which ISP are you using ? Dishnet DSL's 512 kbps plan ? But still how come you get 80 kBps when the max that you are supposed to get with a 512 kbps plan is 64 kBps ?

Actually a 56 kbps operates at 51 or 53 kbps (can't remember which).
This is an FCC rule.
I have a theory why.
Its a nasty one.

I think that 81.1KB/s was the initial burst.
Let it settle down.If U take the initial burst into account I must say my 56Kbps modem can handle 221Kbps.But thats not true.At that rate my modem wud burn.

i was going through the threads posted here as a guest and i saw someone writing that he had a new modem which had 40-50kbps and it broke, consequetively he made his older one work(which had 30-38kbps) and this one worked,,lol
i just tried this with mine...
frnds i have regular internet disc, it happens within 15 mins, and speed is too low, to tell you i am online via Idea, guess what , using the idea mobile with nokia software on 3110c its costs me 600/month and its ok for,..
but after applying the above theory on my connection( internet connection properties) i see a big change..
not only the speed has incresed lol the disc is changing to too less....
techarena a boon for me...lol lol lol
