    SATA HDD problem

I recently bought a new hdd and I have two houses so I installed the hdd on a pc in house A and its a newer pc (04-06) and everything worked fine, now when I brought it over to house B to use it on that pc (02-04) and it doesn't even recognize that hdd and wont startup. I just get the error "Disk boot Failure. Insert system boot disk and press enter".

I pluged the HDD in correctly yet when I feel the hdd it feels like its barely moving.

I've plugged the same hdd into many diff pcs and it only works on the one.

and ive tried booting from a diff hdd and try to use the SATA one as a slave but it still doesnt read it.

    SPECS...

    Western Digital
    400gb
    WD4000AAJS - 32YFAO
    WD Caviar SE

when you install that hdd in house b, are you making it as slave?
cause if you are making it master then you will have to install an OS in that hard drive i guess assuming it as windows xp Os.

I assume by install you mean plug it in. It doesnt have the option for slave. It says "Master/Slave jumper not required for SATA Jumpered pins 3 and 4 enable PUIS (Power Up in Standby)"

and the other jumper settings are Default, SSC Enabled (pins 1&2), PM2 Enabled (pins 3&4), and OPT1 Enabled (pins 5&6)

W/ default and the pins 3&4 jumpered the pc didn't even read/notice the hdd.

It has WinVista as the OS (installed at house A)(And works fine over there only).

    SATA HDD problem

I recently purchased a SATA HDD but I am unable to install it. After connecting the hdd, it is impossible to turn on the PC. It crashes after a test of memory, here is what is displayed on the screen:

"Sil 3112a SATARaid Bios version 4.2.47

<ctrl+S> Or press F4 to enter utility Raid
    1 ST3750330AS "

It hangs here. I tried to find a different solution: visit the BIOS, and after some research there is much to update for the driver sil 3112 to see the bios updated... I do not know what to do as a beginner!

    Motherboard: Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe
    OS: Windows XP

Every input would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: SATA HDD problem

Is it an additional disk or a new disk where you want to install an OS?

It is an additional disk, I have 2 other IDE disk and it is one of those 2 where my OS is installed.

You are not on your disk with the port sata raid? Have you tried on another port? Also check the settings in bios: boot device.

    Re: SATA HDD problem

In the bios you need to have something like

    Primary SATA Raid [Enabled]

This might be disabled in your case, that's what sends you this message:

"Press <ctrl+S> or F4 to enter utility Raid
    1 ST3750330AS "

    Re: SATA HDD problem

    thank you for your answers,

In the BIOS nothing changes, whether hdd is connected or not! so I think I always boot my hdd in IDE.

Regarding ports, I tried plugging in hdd only on the 2 (sata raid1 and sata RAID2).

For settings in the BIOS I have not seen "SATA" scored only once is it normal?

Take a look at the support and manual at the ASUS site: http://www.asus.com/index.aspx. I hope the ASUS support group will help you solve the problem.

Have you tried disabling the jumper?
