    question Error Reported bad data In NTBACKUP

    Hi,

    I've read alot to resolve my problem but none have worked.

    I'm using a machine installed with XP-Pro with Tendberg Data DLT VS160 external for backup.

    Here is the backup log:

    Error: the device reported an error on a request to write data to media.
    error reported: bad data

    This happened after 10 mins into running an full backup of network drives.

    I tried below steps to isolate this -
    * Replaced DLT
    * Changed backup media
    * Updated Driver of DLT & SCSI controller
    * CHanged media storage place as supeted demagnitisation of media
    * Same backup machine installed in other place
    * Installed fresh OS

    After these many steps same error is coming while ntbackup.
    Pls help.

    ThumbsUp Re: Error Reported bad data In NTBACKUP

    Just fixed this problem this morning, I hope it works for you as well.

    Error: the device reported an error on a request to write data to media.
    error reported: bad data

    I looked in the event viewer for application and System errors:
    Application error states:
    End Backup of 'C:' 'Warnings or errors were encountered.'

    Verify: On
    Mode: Replace
    Type: Normal

    Consult the backup report for more details.

    However, the System error reported some helpful information.
    The device, \Device\Tape0, has a bad block

    My Solution:
    I reset the tape drive by holding the eject button for 30 seconds
    Cleaned the drive with a head cleaner
    Reboot the server.
    Ran backup and no more errors.

    I Hope this works for you
