    external hard drive not detected even in device manager

    Hi...I have 1tb wd new hdd. When i connect it to my laptop, its not getting detected.I can hear the soft spinning noise from within the hdd but there is no usb device acknowledgement. Neither i can find my hdd in device manager and my computer explorer. I tried to install the usb drivers also and changed the usb cable also, bt stll my hdd is not detected.. Please help

    It might be possible that the exclosure could be dead rather than the drive. You can try to get a USB dock or cable and then take out the drive out of the enclosure and try it that way.

    Hi arnav467,
    Based on your post, you may try the steps below:
    1) Try to connect the drive through another USB port on your laptop.
    2) Try to connect the drive to another computer and see does it react same?
    3) Right-Click on the My Computer icon either on your desktop or in the Start Menu and select Manage.
    A new window titled Computer Management comes up.
    4) Select Storage from the left hand side by clicking it once, then select Disk Management(local) from the right side by double-clicking it. Find your new drive and format it with one large partition.
    5) Run the Data Lifeguard Diagnostics to test the drive. Here's the link below:

    Thanks for the help...USB Port was faulty. My laptop has only one usb port, so i cud not find the prob.
    How can i check the warranty of my hdd?
