Seagate 3TB ST3000DM001 hard drive clicking problem

I have an old Seagate 3TB ST3000DM001 drive and whenever I start my pc then I can hear the drive spinning up, then after sometime it will make clicking noise and then it will spin down and wont be recognized in the bios. Is this problem happening due to bad PCB? Can anyone tell me about any programs that I can use to dignose this hard drive? Thanks for any help in advance.

Can you try to get a diagnostic report via the drive's serial terminal interface. You should not use any commands other than ctrl+z and especially not the "m" command, as it is a data destructive in models later than the 7200.11 models. I also dont beleive that it could be a PCB issue. It seems more like the heads cannot read the servo information. You can try the CA-42 cable and also check and test what the drive reports.

It looks to me that you are facing Delayed Write Failure because of turning it off while it was writing. Since you have a 3TB drive I dont think that you are using a UEFI bios motherboard, so you will have to start freshly with a fresh format. Incase your drives are no coming online then you can use Gparted in DOS to delete partitions and format the drives as well.

Can you try to connect this same hard drive to another PC as a slave and then use HD Sentinal check the drive health. If you are seeing good healt then it means that you have a compatibility or config issue. You should also know that this drive was not intended to be used in 10 year old PCs or with Windows XP, you can use it but it will not behave properly.
