I dont think so, that, whether you turn off your pc frequently or so, there should be no crash of hard disk. Normally, when you are working on your computer and then all of a sudden there is a power cut when you are writing something onto the hard drive, then that may cause serious problem. Most of the time when a hard drive starts to die, then windows will report you about same as well.
