What are the risks involved on Windows Server drive failure

We have a small office with 15 systems. Now we are planning to connect all these workstations with a server PC that will be running on Windows Server 2008. Now, as this is the first time am getting to Windows Server and all these stuffs, i would like to know what are the risk factors involved if server's Hard Drive got failed or corrupted ? Also what would be scenario if operating system gets corrupted ? Will there be any effect on other systems, if yes, how huge will those be ?

Yes offcourse there will be few problems on other PCs as they are connected with one sole server. The risk factors are big such as you will lose all the files from share and backup that stored on server drive if it gets failed. As you might be knowing that there are also few apps configured from the server to the connected workstations. In case server OS corrupts or hard drive fails, you will loose functionality or configuration of those applications. Apart from this if you have not enable duplication with respect to application folders, then add-ins might be get affected. To resolve the same you need to reinstall Add-ins. If you made any configuration such as OS tweaks or installed and configured some software from server desktop, you will loose the same.

To avoid data loss I recommend that you should take backup of the data at regular interval of time on other disk so that you can use same when disk failure issue occurs. If you are not having duplicated file then I recommend that you should remove failed drive from storage pool using console. Once you had removed failed drive , simply run the database backup repair wizard in order to recover backup database. Files which are conflicting on the shares might be affected. you should also immediately replace the failed or corrupted drive so that you can do server reinstall.
