Looking at the situation I am suspecting that there is an issue with the user id which you are having on your computer. I recommend that you should create a new user id on your system and try to use U3 stick and see whether it helps you out or not. If issue seems to resolve then there was an issue with the user account itself.

After going through the problem of yours I am suggesting a registry solution to you. you should backup the registry before you do anything.

First of all you have to launch registry editor and look for the below mentioned registry key.
    H
    Code:
    KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\INIFilemapping
Find out the value called autorun.inf and it would have value called SYS: D
    Code:
    oesNotExist or SYS:software\Swearware\dump
You have to right click on the same and you have to delete the value.
Now restart the system and see whether the issue is existing or not.

If any of the above mentioned solution does not seems to work for you then you should simply reinstall windows Vista. After competing with same all the windows updates would be reapplied when you are inserting U3 stick. Once U3 Launchpad is started you have to right click on U3 icon from the System Tray and simply click on Safely eject U3 smart drive.
