Unable to update Seagate Barracuda ST31500341AS 7200.11 SATA 3Gb/s 1.5-TB

I am running Linux on Dell XPS 630i. as far as hard disk is concerned I am running 1.5TB Seagate. I found that Dell diagnostics prompt with an error message which failed with DST. I installed Seatools 2.23 and after selecting hard disk it prompted that it is recommended to update the firmware of hard drive. after searching a lot found that I have to use Brinks-4D8H-SD1B.ISO in order to update the firmware. I used the same but it did not worked for me at all. can you help me out to resolve the above mentioned problem? Thanks a lot in advance.

The most easy way is to install HD Sentinal or HD Tune. If they are having Linux version then it would display bad sectors as well as general health of the hard disk which you are using.

Well I am not able to remember that CCxx firmware available as a download for the 7200.11 drives. As per the SeaTools I could not get why it is asking for the firmware updater. I am suspecting that HD Sentinel is not able to communicated with the drive of yours. also there could be an issue with driver itself.

Well thanks a lot for the prompt replies of yours. I wanted to talk about the couple of DST reports but Seagate tool is saying that I will require a firmware update. But when I visited the official website I was not able to get anything. DST report is also saying that DST is getting failed. I am really getting confused if you know anything please let me know as early as possible.

As far as I know Dell is supposed to put lots of things on the factory built computers. In case you have already removed Windows for Linux then also it is possible that some of the hardware component on your computer might be looking for the Dell stuffing only. Could be possible that Dell has flashed the drives and now drive is looking for Seagate configs and it is not able to get anywhere. Hence it is prompting to flash the drive. also you will be able to do Sentinal route so that you can figure out the exact condition of the drive by simply slaving the same with the drive which is working with Windows based operating system.
