How to unlock ATA password of Western Digital hard disk

I have bought the Western Digital ATA hard disk , but it is locked with ATA password! I came to know about it when my MHDD gave me the warning as “This drive is locked by ATA password”. My hard drive is WDC WD2500JB-00GVC0. My friend has told me that it will cost me $50. Do you guys know any way by which i can unlock it by myself? I will lost all my the files stored in that drive.

You can use the data recovery and diagnostic tools like pc3000 to unlock the hard drive and then recover your information. I don’t think there is any another way of unlocking the hard drive by yourself! Otherwise you will have to pay for that. If that information on your drive is so important to you then the given amount is nothing much costlier and you should be able to spend it to get your information back from Western Digital!

Actually, i have tried hdat2 data recovery tool to unlock my drive but it gave me the notification back saying that the master password for this hard drive is changed. The master password revision code is shown to me as”3033h”. I have never tried to change my master password. I did not even no i that can assign such a password to my drive. What would br the reason behind this? Can you please suggest something else to me?
