Unable to work with SMART command timeout in ST31000524AS Barracuda 7200.12 1GB SATA-3

I have purchased new desktop at my home for personal and professional use one month ago. but after that I faced some problem with product. And I also buy the ST31000524AS Barracuda 7200.12 1GB SATA-3. My Start/stop count on SMART is around 50. But I cannot access the my HD. I cannot understand the problem. I think the problem may be in the SATA/AHCI controller but I am not sure about that. And I also heard the noise from the HDD. Can anyone give me some suggestion to solve this problem? Please help me.

i conclude I can give you some information to you related to this topic. I think the noise you heard that is of fans only. It is not related to HD. I give you suggestion to Ignore the SMART data if the disk does not give problem. and try to make sure the disk is snuggly attached to the chassis which minimize vibration.

I want to give you suggestion that you have to check the connectivity of the drive properly because command timeouts are generally found due to or poor cable connection.

I had same problem sometime before therefore I want to give you some information about this problem and want to share my experience with you. After the problem I searched on the web for a solution but I did not get the perfect solution for that. So then I have purchased 3TB 6GB/s HDD for my use and I want to say that it is enough for me. And also it doesn’t make any sort of noise within the working. I think the problem may relate to WD drives also so try to check out for them. I hope this will give you better experience.

Your problem is not so rare for me. So I can give you better solutions for that. here I am giving you some instructions so please follow it for solving this. For that
    • First you have to restart your system.
    • Then press Del tab continuously to go in BIOS settings.
    • After that go to smart Drive properties.
    • and try to make it disable.
    • After that save the changes.
    • Then you have to press Esc
    • After that Restart the system

I think this solve your problem. I hope this can work for you.

After reading your description I want to give you some advice or you can say information. I think the drive's body appears to act as a resonance chamber. It amplifies the sound. And also makes echo-like noises. So it is not a problem actually just a loud noise. I think this is found due to extra load on the device so try to make the application number as low as possible. You can use the DB meter to major the noise and check it is more than standard noise or not. I want to tell you can use RMA also for better use. So please try to buy another model for the internal storage.

According to me you have the best option to solve this problem which is effective and cost efficient also. You mentioned that you purchased your device recently so you definitely got the warranty or guarantee on your device. So please try to replace your device with the new product.

I think this is not a hardware related issue. You can try to change the setting in bios and will see the problem will disappear. But I cannot provide you that setting due to some reason.
