Windows vista: No headphone option with X-Fi Titanium card

I am having the X-Fi Titanium card and I am under vista 64 bit here's my problem. I select headphones in the console launcher and audio control panel. However when I go to windows sound options it says speakers and there no headphone option which normally I wouldn't care but every time I load up my games I have to change my audio settings to headphones and apply because the games load up with windows default which would be 2 speakers and it’s a irritation. I sent an email to creative and they only linked me to a self support page to solve common problems. So I am posting this over here so that I can get response from the actual users. Please help me.

This can be because of the outdated driver in your computer. I have found many of the similar thread on various sites who are having the same problem. So this is not only you who is facing this. My suggestion to you is to update the driver to the latest version available. There are more chances that updating the driver will resolve the problem that you are facing. I hope that you will need no more suggestion after this.

You will not have to install drivers again. Please don’t listen to the previous post. This is a very easy fix. Take a look at your console launcher and there choose settings at the bottom of the applet. Check both boxes and whenever you plug your headphones in, it will automatically change to headphone mode. When you unplug those headphones, it will automatically change back for you to 2.1 or 5.1 or whatever you have previously selected. I have an X-FI titanium and this works beautifully when I plug my headphones in. I have my front panel audio jacks hooked up to my Titanium card. The jack you need to have hooked up to it, is an INTEL HD audio jack, not AC97, for AC97 differs a bit in pins. You can rewire an AC97 jack to work with this though if your case does not have one.

Headphones directly plugged into the sound card will not work. Your sound card will see the headphone jack just like a set of 2 regular speakers. Plugging your headphones into a front panel jack that is connected to the sound card's front panel adapter will signal that they are headphones. There is no way for it to tell that you have headphones or just a regular speaker jack when it is plugged into the back. Here are the Intel specs if you wish to adapt your front panel jacks to HD Intel jack that the card needed.

The card that you are using might not be installed properly and that is the reason that you are facing this issue. If none of the solution comes to be helpful to you then you can simply remove the card from your computer and then install that properly again. If the problem was due to improper installation of the card then you will get that headphone this time. Please reply back that what you got after this.
