Kingston SSDNow V Series 40GB SSD

Kingston praises of the new 40-gigabyte model of the V-Series SSDNow a particularly favorable Solid State Disk. Despite the low price will make the Intel Flash technology for high performance. I am eager to know more about the Kingston SSDNow V Series that has capacity of 40GB. I am sure that some members hanging out there will definitely help me. I want some detailed notes about it. Please reply me faster.

Re: Kingston SSDNow V Series 40GB SSD

Those who are Kingston's V-Series interested SSDNow is quickly confused. The Solid State Disks are in addition the new 40GB version already as 64 - and 128-gigabyte version. If it were not bad, but all models differ fundamentally in the installed components. The SSDNow V-Series with 64 and 128 GB Toshiba employs a controller with no cache with unconvincing performance. The V Series SSDNow other hand, uses the better in many SSDs Samsung controller with cache. The new 40-gigabyte version of the V-Series SSDNow own, according to Kingston particularly in use as a fast boot drive. Accordingly, the drive is optimized at a high speed read out. Kingston built for this purpose the controller PC29AS21BA0 Intel, the Intel in its X25-M G2 used. However, in the Kingston SSD only five of the ten parallel channels of the Intel NAND controller active. With the five channels, the controller also controls exactly five MLC NAND from Intel. Thus, the Kingston V-Series 40GB maximum sequential read rate reached 254 Mbytes / s. This is exactly the reading speed of the Intel X25-M G2. A different picture emerges, however, the sequential write: While the Intel X25-M G2 82 MByte / s, provides the Kingston-SSD provides 44 MByte / s, only about half.

Re: Kingston SSDNow V Series 40GB SSD

In the Reading Zone reached the Kingston V-Series 40GB Although a top ranking, but the write value is far behind the competition. In practical operation, the results reflect only partially: in the typical reading operation with files of varying sizes reach the SSDNow with 99 MByte / s, a good placement. When writing files to SSD Kingston climbs thanks to its 32-Mbyte cache after all, still without ICs from all Solid state disks data buffer - despite lower sequential write performance. The boot process takes place with the 40GB SSDNow faster than with a 2.5-inch hard drive, but the difference is not serious.

Re: Kingston SSDNow V Series 40GB SSD

Kingston 40GB SSDNow V-Series is available at online retailers for around 90 Euro. A kit with a 3.5-inch drive rails, SATA cable, power cable adapter and software Acronis True Image Clone is it the drive for about 100 euro. Kingston SSDNow V-Series 40GB can be recommended only for the primary purpose of a boot disk in the desktop computer. The reading performance of solid state disk is indeed at a very high level but can write performance left much to be desired. Due to the limited capacity of 40 GB is the SSD for the sole operation in the computer any more. The necessary additional hard drive makes the advantage of the silent and low power operation would be lost. Laptop owners will deter the limited capacity of the SSD.

Re: Kingston SSDNow V Series 40GB SSD

With the omission of custom firmware, this SSD is for all intents and purposed an Intel X-25M generation 2 with only partially the storage capacity. It is inopportune but one of the most important defects with the X-25M g2 controller is that it doesn’t scale down as well with subordinate capacities as other competitors’ products. For this motivation the write specifications of the Kingston SSDNow V 40GB drive are about half of what the X-25M 80GB’s are. On the plus side this drive, while original to the market and hard to find right now, this product has a downright anemic online price of about $124 (though this is for the desktop upgrade kit, the standard version goes for even a smaller amount at about $112!). In “Desktop Upgrade” mode, the Kingston SSD acts as a boot drive which can and will considerably amplify the performance of older system.
