How to mix 1Rx8 and 2Rx8 ram sticks

Currently I am having gateway GT5014 that is having one gigabyte of Samsung DDR2 1Rx8 pc2-4200 533 MHz and the ram is installed. Now I am searching for the update the ram to 3 gigabyte. Now I want to know is there a way to mix the 1Rx8 and the other 2Rx8. But this thing should not conflict with each other. I hope that you have understood the problem that I am facing and now I need the solution from your side. If you can provide the solution for this problem then please do so. I think that there won’t be any issue with this thing, you just need to have the latest BIOS from the gateway if it is not accepting the combination you are trying to do. I think that 1Rx8 is having memory on one side and 2Rx8 is the two sided memory stick. Currently I am having 3.5GB of memory in your computer system. I am having two sticks with one gigabyte of random access memory and one stick of 512 megabyte of random access memory. I am having Dell inspiron and this allows me to use one sided and two sided memory. But the thing is that this will not allow maximizing the performance. I hope you have understood what I am trying to convey.

I am also having similar concern, for Motherboard P5K-PREMIUM-WIFI - LGA775 socket for Intel Pentium 4, Pentium D, Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Extreme, Core 2 Quad - Intel P35 and ICH9R - FSB 1333/1066/800 MHz - Dual Channel - 4 DIMM slots support max. 8 GB DDR2 1066 / 800/667 MHz. So what will the best strips as DDR2? Corsair 2 x 1 GB of 1066 MHz. I mean to say I need comparison between the two, means want to compare 1Rx8 and 2Rx8 ram sticks. Currently I am hesitating between the Core 2 Quad 6600 2.4GHz and Core 2 Duo E8400 at 3GHz. Can you provide any related solution for this thing.

I would like to have ASUS P5LD2 Deluxe Motherboard but the thing is that I am having limited budget hence I have to plan things according to that. Currently I am having DDR1 pc3200 but I want to know that is this thing is compatible with the motherboard I am having. Memory that I am having is DDRII. If you can advice me for this thing then it will be really helpful. If you can provide any other suggestions for having another motherboard then do so. I will be waiting for you related reply. One more thing I will like to say that any related reply will be appreciated.
