Need a small and noiseless gaming machine under 500 dollars

I am a college student and I have got a macbook that was meant for school work and projects only . I also had a gaming PC that was working nice, but it was very old so I sold it Since now I have a laptop for school, this system will be mostly utilized for running old FPS GAMES and small EMULATORS. I do NOT play high end games on it such as Crysis. But I play I games like Crossfire and Counter Strike only on that system I will require all sortt of hardware. I am looking to buy a case that must be small and to buy a monitor as well , but this should all come under 500 dollars , because I only have that much of budget.

If you smaller than a mid-tower will make your choices difficult for PSUs and prudent graphics cards, not to mention probable cooling and RAM/cooler clearance problems. I would hope that a regular mid-tower, under your desk, would not hamper your requirement that much. I am suggesting you to go for a standard fps, on the low end, and expensive , it will not be of that low quality so that you make out from its performance in the next few years. It will be useful till you complete your graduation and you can also upgrade it as per your needs.I am going to suggest you about a Socket AM3 *standard* that has an ATX motherboard a processor from AMD i.e Athlon II x4 @ 3.0GHz and a RAM chip of 4GB (2x2) of G.SKILL 1600c7 which will be ecofriendly . you can opt for a stock cooler of 120mm... and a powers supply unit form the CORSAIR or you can also opt for the Antec PSU that has the wattage of 550 or 650 , you can choose the monitor as per your need , but I would buy a Samsung if I was in your place. But still do not take any step in hurry, do all sorts of research and then execute your plan.

I thought it is a mini-tower and it is probably the half of the size of a mid-tower an it normally requires takes a standard power supply and a MATX motherboard I if you ask me I will not recommend you to buy a cheaper PSU . and please also check the motherboard specifications against the RAM to make it sure whether they fit with each other .

I am too a college student, so I really understand your level of laziness. I can check with my system speculations and see whether it fits with your needs .I have a coolermaster case at place and it is lot larger than I had anticipated it would be. The reason does not lie in the college but in the size. A little mid tower would be all right. I am looking forward to build something that will give me more opportunities for the money rather opting for the PS3 but in case if you do not find anything related to that sort The major thing is that: You can buy a 80+ FPS with less grader shooters .
