Hp Envy 14 I7-720, Unusually high temps?

    Friends,
My dad gifted a Envy to my younger brother on his birthday. But it has become a headache for me. It is the I7-720, 4 GB Ram and 500GB Drive. When it is on idle working, it is heated up to 50-55C but when start playing games on it becomes very hot in very less time and become uncomfortable to play. Sometimes screen goes blank and I have no option other then pressing restart button.

This problem is not created when I turn on the AC at full blast. Is this normal behavior? I don’t think so. What will be the best way to get out of the issue?

You can use a laptop cooler to drop your machines temperature down. It is very necessary for the laptop to have a laptop cooler if it is getting overheated. It helps to reduce the heat of operating system. This cooler is used normally when cooling fan of your laptop is not able to cool your laptop sufficiently. You can also use a cooling pad. It may be a house active or passive cooling methods. Active coolers take the heat away from laptop directly from continuous flow of air or water. Passive cooler depends upon thermally conductive materials.

This will be the best option for you and will definitely reduce the heat of your laptop.

SpeedFan will be the beat option for you. You can try SpeedFan to control the speed of the fan in your laptop. SpeedFan can monitor the temperature from several sources. If you configure the SpeedFan properly then you can change the speed of the fan according to the system temperature. disable all the VARIATE FANs checkboxes when you are choosing parameters for the minimum and maximum fan speed. I suggest you to use 100 as maximum and 60 as minimum speed.

One of my friend already suggested me to use SpeedFan and I tried it too. But if does not helped me much. I wasted my money on it. but thank you for your suggestion. Now I am thinking to use a laptop cooler. Can you suggest me which cooler will be the best for me. or is there any other idea to get out of this issue?

The problem you are facing is called as overheating. If your heatsink was not secured properly then it may cause overheating and its a very serious problem. It may also affect your laptops other parts. There may be some other problem that some of the files may be corrupted. You can try stress testing the CPU and GPU. By doing this you can see that if it locks up your computer also.

Just check that if your laptop is under warranty or not. If it is under warranty then you don’t need to do anything. You can go to the dealer from where you have purchased that laptop and ask them for the problem. If they cannot solve this then you can ask them to replace it with other piece.
