C4580 Set-up - Will not Install on XP Home Edition PC

I simply love this product HP Photosmart All-in-One printers. Before buying this product I went for a detailed research on it. I found that it was ideal for document and photo printing, scanning and copying. It had many advantages that made me crazy about it. In its minimum requirement section it was mentioned that it can work on Windows XP Home (SP1). Now when I am trying to get my C4580 All-in-one installed on my XP Home Edition PC it is not going with what it said. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Please suggest.

Please try cleaning your computer and reinstalling the HP software. Before cleaning computer first unplug the USB cable from the product. Then Reboot the computer. Now run the Disk Cleanup utility by clicking Start, then All Programs, then Accessories, System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup. Now the Disk Cleanup utility analyzes the hard drive. After the analysis a report with a list of options appears on the computer. Now, click the appropriate check boxes to remove unwanted files from the computer. Hit OK. On the confirmation screen hit Yes. This is all about cleaning the Computer.
Now for reinstalling the HP software. First load the CD in the CD drive. Double click the CD drive. Now follow the instructions and finish the installation of the software.

Thanks for your quick response Hardwareman, I have done this several times but have not tasted the success. I have almost given up on trying to get my C4580 All-in-one installed on my XP Home Edition PC. I always get an error something like MSI.dot4wpt. hpmiapi.dll will not register. I am fed up with this. Now I think that I have wasted my money. Is there any possible chance of getting it work. Please help.

I thought what Hardwareman, gave would be enough, but if that is not solving the issue then you need to disable your startup software. In Run type msconfig and then hit Enter. The System Configuration Utility dialog box appears. Select Selective Startup, and then clear the Load Startup Items check box. Once this is finished, at the bottom of the screen, under Services tab, select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box. Now click Disable All. After this click Apply and at last hit "OK" and then Restart the system. Reinstall the HP software as Hardwareman mentioned. Once the software is installed, then go to the msconfig and select the Normal Startup configuration and restart the system. I hope that this may work now.

I think I got the solution for you. I have also come across a similar situation. The error that I used to get was of MSI.dot4wrp. You will have to run the regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\atl.dll from the Run window. Once this is comolete the installer will complete without any error. It ran in my case and I hope that this might run well in yours. Do reply.
