New SATA Computer - add ATA backup drive?

I purchased a Dell Studio XPS 9000, Intel Core i7 -920 processor system with 8GB DDR SDRAM, Nvidia GeForce GTS240 with 21.5" SX2210 Full HD monitor running Windows 7. It has 1TB hard drive. I want to install one of the older ATA drives from an older computer as a back up drive.

Is this workable and what do I need to do/know before attempting to install it?. I do not want to install it as a USB external drive (already have that.) This computer has a monster case so probably has enough room to hold a party inside. I want to use the drive to record TV shows (like a DVR does) and keep it separate from the C: drive. (That is another question entirely.)

    Thanks for your help.

Yes I have a IDE drive in my pc working flawlessly with another Sata drive, usually you will need a ide cable for the ata drives and also have to make it master drive so that it can be recognized in your pc. Other than that you dont require to set up jumpers for either of the drives to make slave/master things, buy something like WD 7200 eide hard drive.
