Western or Seagate, 2TB disks using speeds lower than the traditional 7200 rpm. Western was the first to raise and lower speeds at its Green line, then followed by Samsung . Western continues to be mas communicate the speed of rotation of plates .We know that just have Caviar Green technology which provides fine tuned balance of speed, transfer rate and caching algorithms designed to deliver significant savings of energy and solid performance. In practice the speed is around 5400 rpm.

Seagate communicate without ambiguity on the speed of Barracuda LP: 5900 rpm. This speed is pretty original compared to the usual 5400 and 7200 rpm, 5400/5900 rpm discs are interesting choices for many types of use. well i will suggest you go with this there is no any big problem ..
    • WD Caviar Green WD20EADS (5400 rpm, 32MB cache)
    • Seagate Barracuda ST32000542AS LP (5400 rpm, 32MB cache)
    • Samsung SpinPoint F1 HD103UJ (7200 rpm, 32MB cache)
    • WD Caviar Green WD10EADS (5400 rpm, 32MB cache)

In version 2 TB, the Caviar Green is significantly more greedy than 1TB in simple rotation, but at the same level of access. The Barracuda LP is to share a little more efficient rotation, but much more greedy in access. If magnetic hard disks are struggling to fight against the DSS regarding performance, they are unbeatable side capacity.

But only two discs of 2 terabytes available on the market, it seems that Western Digital has made the best choice. Certainly with its 5900 rpm, the Barracuda LP manages at times to be faster than the latter. It is not systematic mainly because of better management NCQ at Western Digital, and the other is the disk temperature and its noise, which are significantly higher than in the WD model.

The Barracuda LP is almost as noisy and hot as Samsung SpinPoint F1, which is of course with only 3 platters at 7,200 rpm! Conversely the WD20EADS is very close to the previous generation 1TB WD10EADS remains very discreet while heating significantly less.
